We use a TAMP who joined the industry using managed futures in 2007. They killed it for a few years, and havent really had an awesome year since then. It can be done, but you've got to have a solid system, and frankly it's more trouble and risk than most people ever want to take on. Turns out retail clients don't like non-correlated returns either btw......

Great insights. Thanks!

Why don't retail clients like non-correlated returns? Seems like non-correlated should be comforting.

Because when the market is up 15% they expect to be up 15%. They don’t like non-correlated returns anymore than they like asset allocation.

Basically they watch 'the market' too much. Sure it's nice when the market is flat or down a bit, and youre up. People are happy you didn't lose money, but not ecstatic. But what happens when Fox or CNN is screaming about all time S&P highs, and you're only up 3% ytd? Then they lose their minds and don't get why you aren't killing it too.
Every system has it's ups and downs, but at least when yours are the same as everyone elses clients feel like it can't be helped and they're not the only ones hurting.

Craig,
A few things:

1) what is an "election investment report?"
2) You seem like a really good guy and I'm not trying to be a jerk here, but let's be honest with what you're pitching.  You certainly didn't create an account here to make $1 on any person who would take you up on the offer.  What's the rub here and how much does your system cost?
3) As for managed futures, there are several issues present.  Personally, I've NEVER touched them in my ten years in the business.  Here's a link to an older but still very relevant Forbes article that details many of my own concerns.

Hi Nova02,

1.) An election investment report is a report that addresses the jitters investors feel around elections. I've found it's a great way of building leads because people have a heightened fear of potential loss in election years. The report helps them contextualize those fears.  It should address standard objections (i.e. talking heads on TV) and give a history of market returns through various election cycles. I've run this before and it worked really well to drive new leads . . . who eventually became customers ... and the best sales year in 14 years for a 40 year old organization.

2a.) I created an account to do some research for a potential managed futures client. They want advisors to start recommending their products. Like most clients I work with, they only see the positive in their product. I'm hoping I can get some insights to the reasons advisors wouldn't recommend managed futures in the portfolio. The better I understand the objections, the more I can help my client. Obviously, there are some major objections, so it helps me scope the work for them. I'm also personally curious. The returns, draw-downs, and recoveries he's showing me are compelling, but I feel like I'm missing something - so I'm asking.

2b.) If you go to the link I provided, I'm pretty transparent about what I'm doing. It's 35 minutes of video that talks about how I ran this campaign before and the results we got. I show you all the pieces you need to run it yourself - including email sequences to send after they download the election report. It includes some enhancements based on what we learned the last time we ran it. If you go to the link, you'll see that I'm very upfront that my end-goal is that 3-5 people would reach out to ask us to run the campaign for them. It's consistent w/ our approach of adding value first (i.e. election report). Some people will want to engage further. Some won't. Either way, you get a proven blueprint that works.

3.) Thanks for the link. I'll look through that. As mentioned above, I want to understand the objections.
