Hello - My name is Thad and I'm a fee-only independent investment advisor (state-registered). I started my own firm in 2007 and have an investment philosophy primarily favoring passive-style (index) investing. Up until now, I have used Vanguard primarily as the custodian for my clients to keep costs low. But, I do want to learn about other possible custodian/platform options (Schwab, TD Ameritrade, others?), keeping a wary eye open on costs, to keep them low for clients.
If anyone has any suggestions, I'm appreciative. And, I will certainly check out the relevant sections of this forum once I have permission.

I thought Vanguard had abandoned their custodial platform for advisors.

He probably isn’t taking custody. Perhaps just doing it with a third party authorization. |

Hi Thad,
Welcome to the board. Interested in how you are using Vanguard as a custodian as well. I follow your philosophy on indexing, and I've found that at several custodians you can keep costs as low as Vanguard, or even sometimes a little lower. Schwab: You can use any ETF you want, including Vanguard, with no transaction fees. Fidelity: Any ETFs you want, as well as Fidelity Index Funds, with no transaction fees. Pershing: State Street ETFs, with no transaction fees (and some index funds as well, though not Vanguard).
