I was a fee only financial planner about 8 years ago. At that time, I was a one person RIA firm.

I left the business due to the fact it was very stressful and I was not doing well.  I was also concerned, maybe overly concerned about compliance issues.

I also passed the CFP exam, but I did not have enough work experience to become a CFP.

Today, I invest for my own account and I help my mother with her investments.

I am semi-retired. I do have a small tutoring business in Computer Science.

 I no longer work in the financial industry but there are times when I think I want to try again.

I do not think that much has changed about being an RIA. The reason to try again would be that having failed once, I would be better at it a second time.
