I know of a black advisor from Edward Jones in Flagstaff Arizona (who is 23 years in and one of the biggest producers) who came to train one of the biggest white brokers in the area and is a go to guy for training new advisors etc. From what I understood he always told him that his approach was if a white guy needed to speak to 20 people he spoke to 40 to make up for whatever disadvantage. As a matter of fact the guy who he trained who influenced me to want to doorknock said that the black advisor used his perceived disadvantage as a way to get clients
CashMoney - in terms of chickening out when you get to the area I find just getting out the car works and as soon as I've knocked on 2 or 3 doors and get a good contact I start saying to myself why I didn't do it earlier. My biggest 'fear' is that people from the houses across the street are watching me and laughing at me and by the time I get to their side they know who I am and expect me and won't open the door but honestly people aren't doing that. It's all in the head I find. Which is why I'm focused on my 20,000 the sooner I get to it the better regardless of what people say I'm just moving on

I'm right here with you man. I'm a new advisor (6 months in securities and a year in life) and I think going door to door HAS to be the only way to build from the ground up. I started cold walking businesses my first day and the trouble is asking for the boss, selling the gatekeeper and not being able to get the boss as a referral. If you have time to chat, I have been looking for an accountability partner, and realistically trying to talk to people in my office about it causes them to stare at me like I'm insane. Part of me wants to quit and go to EJ for the training and bring it back here to apply to my practice, but the other part (90%) loves where I'm at and just wants to get more clientele to do the good work for.
