Hello everyone!! I’ve recently joined a small financial planning firm and in the process of building my own book of business. I transitioned from a discount brokerage firm that I spent 6 years with to focus more on holistic financial planning matters instead of just investment management.

As crazy as it may sound, I’m also plan to take the CFP exam in March. All hours and education already accounted for. 2020 has made studying and building business even more difficult but I have to get it done. Looking forward to continuing to learn.

Life at the discount brokerage was great at first until I realized that it was just going to be a constant war of promo shopping. I’d rather work with individuals in a wider capacity and not worry about comp changes every quarter.

I once attended an industry dinner/presentation with a lot of TD "brokers" in attendance.

Those guys were cavemen.

If I could have been in my 20s, single and worked in Scottsdale for Vanguard, I would have owned the fucking world.

Yea, I quickly learned that I am more relationship driven than transactional. TD is TD! They received their money from self-directed traders and thats why they are now purchased by Schwab.

Hacksaw I'm with you on that one!! You would have never wanted to leave that place.

Skip the CFP and focus on prospecting.

I certainly plan on doing this and have skipped the previous two testing dates from 2020. Right now I’m trying to find a consistent prospecting method to focus on and build enough clientele for the moment. I have a list from listshack and utilize LinkedIn which is now seeming to be crowded with many other advisors messaging(feedback from connections).

Any one having luck with listshack cold calling these days?
